After leaving thrash-bore band RABBIT'S CARROT in early February 1990, John started planning a new band in his musical direction. Here is the interview we conducted with him about DISSECTION...
For how long has this spectacle been going on? Who plays what and why?
Well, after I left thrash-bore band RABBIT'S CARROT in the beginning of February 90, I've always been planning to form a band which play in my musical direction. I asked an old friend of mine, Peter, and RABBIT's drummer Ole, "Grodan", to join, and so they did. We started to work on a couple of songs and rehearsed, but then the summer came and Peter went on his well-earned vacation. Then it was time for me to go to England... It was totally impossible to rehearse. Anyway, when I got home from England, we started to rehearse intensely, but then Ole had the luck of getting his arm broken (sorry - bad luck that was. - ED). Shit, this was a disaster!!! This meant that we couldn't rehearse for another month. Well, now we're back and everything seems to work out fine, so hopefully we'll record our debut demo in October 90! It'll contain three songs of melodic disco(????), so hold your eyes and ears open. The lineup at the moment is Peter - bass, John - vocals/guitar, Ole, "Froggy" - drums, and Mappe - guitar (session guitarist).
Why the glorious name of DISSECTION???
I really don't know... We all searched for a fitting name for the band, then we made a vote. DISSECTION is maybe not a great name, but who the hell cares... It is the music that counts.
How would you like to describe your music and what kinda lyrics do you have???
A difficult question (sorry, but I just had to make a fool of you - ED)! I suppose you can call the music we're playing death metal. The lyrics are mostly about sickness, and sick persons... (I'm flattered! - ED). I wouldn't call the lyrics gore... Perhaps the closest description is mainly morbid!!!
Do you use to eat mushrooms while practicing or just look at them and ignore them???
Seriously talking, how can you come up with such a silly question? (Well... let's just say that I'm a fucking horse cock from hell. - ED). Eat or ignore mushrooms!! HA HA HA, that's sick, man! (Oh, really? - ED). Psychically normal persons usually sit down, relax, and have a nice conversation with those lovely mushrooms! It'd be unfair to eat them, because they sell really cheap elk-cheese (who does??? - ED)... Also, it'd be foolish to ignore them, because they've got some really cool disemboweling methods which they kindly teach out!!! Yes, Johan, this is true, so please try to talk to them next time you ever feel for eating them!
What band do you consider as the heaviest and meanest band around right now?
Probably MORBID ANGEL! I don't know really. There's so many heavy bands around at the moment. I guess my faves at the moment are MASTER/DEATHSTRIKE, IMMOLATION, PARADISE LOST (the demos), DEATH (two first LPs), PESTILENCE, UNLEASHED, CARCASS, AUTOPSY, MAYHEM, CADAVER, GRAVE, OBITUARY, NOCTURNUS, CARNAGE (yeah, the old Swedish posers!), (of course! - ED) (RIP), DARKTHRONE, NIHILIST/ENTOMBED and hundreds more.
Are you into "gay bashing"???
What is that? I've never heard of that before! (Of course you haven't - you're from Strömstad! - ED). If it's the same as killing elks, I'm into it! HAHAHA urrrrk vräääl, no, I don't think so!
Now that there are three bands that play this kind of music in Strömstad, it must be hard to maintain an original style, or is it just positive with a little of competition, or what do you say???
I would say it's positive!! Even though maybe each band influences each other in one or another way, but that's not much. We were the first death metal band from here, so I can't really say we've been influenced by NOSFERATU or RABBIT'S CARROT very much. No, that's impossible! I think it's cool that in such a small town there's three death metal bands, It's really good when we're arranging gigs together.
When could we expect a demo from DISSECTION then? Soon or not that soon???
Well, as I said earlier, we'll try to record it in the middle of October, so I guess it'll be released in November sometime.
